Vineland Estates Winery ‘Kevin O’Leary’ Unoaked Chardonnay 2018
VQA Niagara Peninsula $14.95 (37751) 12.5% alcohol
This is a medium-bodied chardonnay blend—2/3 chardonnay and 1/3 chardonnay musqué from a Dragon’s Den, TV-personality’s label. It’s fresh on the nose with peach and apple aromas along with hay notes and a lactic character in the background. No oak contact but excellent texture, courtesy the extended bâtonnage, providing a light-coating mouthfeel on the palate. The flavours are focused on orchard fruit and bright citrus then closing on a balancing, mild, almond bitterness. This is exceptional value and an excellent bottle to have on hand to sip on its own or pair with simple fish or chicken dishes. (Louise Boutin)
