Tawse Winery ‘Van Ber’s Vineyard’ Cabernet Franc 2009
VQA Creek Shores $49.95 13.0% alcohol
Leather, tobacco, roasted herbs and toasty bits on the nose, it bathes the palate with a delectable river of briary berry, dark cherry and blueberry interlaced with mixed spice, cassis and tangy red berry fruit. It’s medium bodied, nicely textured with good structure and balance, all from fruit in a challenging vintage transformed by the delicate touch of impeccable winemaking—kudos to Paul Pender. It finishes dry, lengthy and lip-smacking good—optimum drinking 2015 to 2020. (Vic Harradine)

Tawse Winery ‘David’s Block Vineyard’ Merlot 2010
VQA Twenty Mile Bench $49.95 13.5% alcohol
This was sourced from organic/biodynamic fruit. Toasty oak and black berry fruit on the nose, it dishes up a dazzling wash of delectable black plum, chocolate-covered, black Bing cherry and sweet, ripe bramble berry. It’s medium-full weight with generous mouth feel and wonderful acidity throughout. The balanced finish layers on ripe, dark berry fruit wreathed in spice and savoury bits. The perceptible tannin and wisps of oak are tamed with a three-hour aeration/decant or popping the cork 2014 and on. (Vic Harradine)
