Vintages Release: November 26, 2016
• Fruit for the following wine hails from not only hand-picked fruit, but also hand-planted vines in the oldest plots the Speck boys worked on way back in 1988—when the term ‘boys’ closely reflected their age—making these low-yielding vines quite special for them and for their wine. Those Speck ‘boys’ have built a highly respected, value-for-money brand at every price level.
Henry of Pelham ‘Speck Family Reserve’ Cabernet-Merlot 2010
VQA Short Hills Bench $39.95 (616433) $39.95 13.5% alcohol
Deep, rich aromas of Ribena, black licorice and plum pudding set the table for a smorgasbord of flavour with ripe, sweet mulberry jam, spice-infused dark chocolate-drenched black Bing cherry and earthy notes. It’s mid-weight with good mouthfeel and a dry, mid-length finish. Drink up over the next couple of years. (Vic Harradine)
