AOP Côtes du Rhône, France $16.25 13.0% alcohol
This 60/40 Grenache/Syrah blend dishes up aromas of pipe tobacco, espresso roast and red and black berry fruit. It coats the palate with a gusher of ripe sweet briary berry, mixed spice and notions of dried currants. It’s mid weight with creamy smooth texture and a boatload of charm, balanced and beautiful. It finishes fruit forward, lip-smacking good. Great value and a great food wine. (Vic Harradine)
LePlan ‘Grand Cepage Rouge’ Cabernet 2013
Product of France $12.90 13.0% alcohol
Dark toast and wood smoke aromas introduce sour cherry and cranberry robed in tannin, streaking across the palate, infusing the dry, tangy finish. It’s light-medium weight with an aftertaste framed in tangy acidity and underpinned by still-evolving tannin that can be ameliorated by a two-hour aeration decant and pouring alongside salami-laden, tomato sauce pizza. (Vic Harradine)

It’s an easy-drinking Vinho Verde, the kind you find in local outdoor cafes in Portugal poured by the litre with all manner of seafood. Ten million Portuguese can’t be wrong. (Vic Harradine)

Luscious waves of white peach, lemon zest and Key lime pie bathe the palate. It’s medium bodied with generous mouth feel and long racy aftertaste. Pour with prawn ceviche. (Vic Harradine)

DOC Irpinia Aglianico Campi Taurasini, Italy $24.95 13.5% alcohol
Piquant spice and heady aromas of red berry fruit open this racy, tang-laden red. It’s dense, concentrate and tang-laden on the palate with sour cherry and red currant to the fore.
