The vines producing this elixir were pre-phylloxera, the fruit’s from a great vintage and the wine spent 150-years in barrel. This was a special honour to view, nose and taste—it’s green tinged on the rim with a body of dark mahogany. A surge of involved aromas dazzle the senses with dried fruit, molasses, iodine and vanilla mingling with Christmas cake spice, spun sugar, camphor and fig. It coats the palate with a stunning, complex array of treacle, peppery notes, cloves, prune, and peel marmalade that are tinged with sweetness.
