Coyotes Run Pinot Noir 2003
Niagara Peninsula $18

From one of Niagara ’s newest wineries, this is a light-styled Pinot with sour cherry and cranberry fruit and earthy, black pepper notes. The fruit and acidity are well managed and the finish is decent. Pair this with a lighter-intensity dish like baked salmon. Available from the winery. Order it using the link on winecurrent.com . Harrow Estates Riesling 2002
VQA Lake Erie North Shore $9.95 (242917)

This (Colio Estate) ‘off dry’ white is tangy, zippy and refreshing with a streak of sweetness that holds it all together quite nicely. The nose has some floral notes, but is predominantly citrus and slate. The mouthfeel is quite extraordinary with a plush quality that follows through on the sweet and sour tangy finish. Try with spicy Thai food. Available at their corporate retail stores and the Colio site (find the link on www.winecurrent.com ). (VH)

Hillebrand “Showcase” Barrel-Aged Pinot Noir 2002
VQA Niagara $22.00 (980201)

Most of the grapes for this wine come from the Glenlake vineyard, which produces very good wines in the Hillebrand’s single-vineyard series. This Pinot Noir is quite stylish, with a nice core of ripe cherry and berry fruit through the centre, attractive spicy nuances, a nice dose of food-friendly acidity, and soft tannins. It’s another example of Pinot to reinforce Niagara ’s growing reputation for the variety. Try this one with grilled lamb and root vegetables. Available from the winery via the link, winecurrent.com .
